In case you haven't heard...
Higher education is ever-fluctuating and cutting-edge universities continue to address evolving trends. One of the ways departments address their shift in services and support is by combining offices and refining the details of their work. Since their inception, the Office of Multicultural Affairs and the Office of Common Ground have both had rich histories at the University of Richmond. Both offices have been uniquely positioned to support the experiences of underrepresented students, while also offering ongoing social justice and diversity education.
We don’t have a new name yet. However, please be assured that whatever our new name ends up being, we will continue to support the experiences of students and to highlight the beauty and collective richness of them. Our newly-formed office will also support opportunities to raise social justice awareness for all students.
Please know that although we are modifying, there are some things that will not change. Our newly merged staff are still as friendly, as knowledgeable, and as caring as we were yesterday. We still understand that there are populations at UR who have specific needs, and we are just as determined now to assist students with those needs as we have ever been. We anticipate our better aligned-office will aid us in providing a deeper level of support for students.
As we evolve, know that there will be opportunities for you to be involved.
Common Ground promotes a thriving, equitable, and fully-participatory University community deeply engaged with the broader social world.
