Thanksgiving on Campus

Staying on campus for the Thanksgiving holiday? You're not alone. Lots of students live too far away to go home for such a short break, and some even choose to stay and study rather than spend their time traveling. The campus is generally quite quiet, though, with no dining services open between Wed. evening and Sat., and all offices closed as the university shuts down the for holiday weekend. Since 2012, Common Ground has been coordinating services in order to help students who stay on campus feel some sense of community during the Thanksgiving holiday.

Join us for Dinner

Once again Common Ground, in partnership with the Chaplaincy and Dining Services, will be sponsoring a Thanksgiving dinner. This year's dinner will be in The Cellar at 5:00 p.m. on Wed. Nov. 21.

Go Off Campus

On Fri., Nov. 23, transportation will be provided to Short Pump Town Center for the annual American tradition of Black Friday. Signifying the unofficial start of the holiday shopping season, Black Friday is a day known for its large discount shopping opportunities. The shuttles will depart the UR Transportation Hub at 12:00 p.m., 2:00 p.m., 4:00 p.m., and 6:00 p.m.; they will depart Short Pump Town Center at 3:00 p.m., 5:00 p.m., and 7:00 p.m. International Education and Transportation Services fund this service.

Cooking Your Own Meals - Update

If you don't have access to a microwave in your room or hall,  you may access the one located in the Whitehurst Game Room. We appreciate your efforts to keep the area clean for others who wish to use them.

Friday Night in Lakeview

An RA in Lakeview is offering a game night on Friday, Nov. 23 at 7:00 pm in the Lakeview classroom.  They suggested that folks might go in together for some pizza so that's a great option for an affordable meal and a nice free activity on campus.

What Will be Open Over Break

Since most university staff have off from Wednesday, Nov. 21 until Monday, Nov. 26, many of the university buildings will also be closed for most or all of that time including Boatwright Library and the Commons. The Weinstein Gym will be open most days. Make sure to check their individual websites for precise hours of operation. URPD will be on campus the entire time and D-Hall will reopen for brunch at 11:00 on Sunday, the 25th.
