Thanksgiving on Campus

Staying on campus for the Thanksgiving holiday? You're not alone. Lots of students live too far away to go home for such a short break, and some even choose to stay and study rather than spend their time traveling. If you choose to stay on campus, be mindful of the fact that - since the university shuts down - the campus gets very quiet. Of specific importance, this shut-down translates to no dining services being offered Thu. thru Sat.

Since 2012, Common Ground has been coordinating dining options to help students who stay on campus feel a sense of community during the Thanksgiving holiday. All are welcome, and we look forward to having you join us!

Thanksgiving Dinner

We are pleased to welcome all who are on campus to join us for Thanksgiving dinner. This year's dinner will feature turkey and all the fixin's and will be held in The Cellar from 5:00 p.m.-6:30 p.m. on Wed. Nov. 27.

This dinner is co-sponsored by Common Ground, the Chaplaincy, and Dining Services.

Friday Night Pizza and Pop!

Brand new this year! Join Common Ground on Fri. Nov. 29 for free pizza and pop! We'll be in THC 305 from 6:00 p.m.-7:30 p.m., so please stop by for a slice and a soda! There'll also be some games to play!

Black Friday Shopping

International Education, in cooperation with UR Transportation, is offering Black Friday shuttle service from UR to the Village Shopping Center and Short Pump Town Center on Fri. Nov. 29. Breakfast to Go!

Thanksgiving Break Group Me

We have established a GroupMe for Thanksgiving Break. If you would like to join the GroupMe, and be alerted to pop-up events, meals, etc. taking place on campus over the break, please e-mail Shani Buchholz and request to be added to the Group.

Spiders Basketball Game

The UR Mens Basketball team will be taking on Boston College on Sat. Nov. 30 at 2:30 p.m. in the Robins Center. Head on over, check out the game (admission is free with your UR ID), and get something to eat from the concession stands (you can use your dining dollars!).

Microwaves & Kitchen Access

Microwaves will be placed on the first floor of Whitehurst, adjacent to the Office of Residence
Life and Housing, and in the Westhampton Center, adjacent to the Living Room, for student use.
Additionally, the kitchen in the Westhampton Center will be staffed by a student employee and
available for student use to prepare meals Thu. – Sat., 11:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. - 7:00p.m.

What Will be Open Over Break

Since most university staff have off from Wed., Nov. 27 until Mon., Dec. 2, many university buildings will also be closed for most or all of that time. If you're interested in whether a specific building or department will be open, please be sure to check with them ahead of time. URPD will be on campus the entire time and D-Hall will reopen for brunch at 11:00 on Sun., Dec. 1.
